Dong Thap Welcomes First 6 Sarus Cranes from Thailand

To restore and expand the population of sarus cranes in Tram Chim National Park through captive breeding and reintroduction efforts, Dong Thap Province received the first six cranes from Thailand on the evening of April 10, 2025.

This initiative is part of a collaboration between the Dong Thap Provincial People’s Committee, the Zoological Park Organization of Thailand (ZPOT), the Vietnam Zoo’s Association (VZA), the International Crane Foundation (ICF), and the Saigon Zoo and Botanical Garden Company Limited.

Delegation and Provincial Leaders Joyfully Welcome the First Cranes

The six cranes (approximately seven months old) were bred at Nakhon Ratchasima Zoo and transported to Vietnam by airplane, including three males and three females. After health checks, the cranes were taken to the Saigon Zoo for quarantine in compliance with wildlife regulations. They will later be transferred to Tram Chim National Park for further care and conservation efforts.

The transfer and reception of these cranes from Thailand mark the first major milestone in the Vietnam-Thailand Cooperation Program for Sarus Crane Conservation.
