On November 14th, Mr. Le Quoc Phong, Secretary of the Dong Thap Provincial Party Committee, led a delegation to inspect the crane breeding and release area, along with the facilities serving the Sarus Crane Conservation and Development Project at Tram Chim National Park.
Mr. Nguyen Van Lam - Director of Tram Chim National Park - said that earlier this month, a delegation from the province went to Thailand to negotiate the support of two sarus cranes for communication purposes and to launch the project in early December.
"On November 7th, the Dong Thap Provincial Party Committee issued an official dispatch to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam, requesting support in exchanging with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand regarding the sarus crane cooperation program at Tram Chim National Park, to expedite the procedures for receiving the cranes," said Mr. Lam.

After the inspection, Mr. Le Quoc Phong requested Tram Chim National Park to urgently complete the infrastructure and crane care plan, as well as crane conservation cooperation procedures, such as a memorandum of understanding on sarus crane conservation, to serve the next steps of the project.
"By the end of November at the latest, Tram Chim National Park must have a detailed plan for the crane's travel itinerary by road and air, prioritizing crane transportation; carefully prepare conditions for crane care, such as: food sources, stockpiled medicine...
Especially, plan the area to arrange a reasonable place for tourists to visit the cranes, consult with experts to avoid affecting the living conditions of the cranes after they are brought to Dong Thap," Mr. Phong said.
It is expected that before the project announcement ceremony on December 14th, the two sarus cranes from Thailand will be brought to Tram Chim National Park.
Tram Chim National Park is completing the final steps to prepare for bringing the sarus cranes home. This is an important part of the Conservation and Development Project for the Sarus Crane (2022 - 2032), aiming to restore the population of this rare bird species in the Dong Thap Muoi region."

On November 14–15, Tam Nong District People's Committee held a training session to prepare knowledge and communication skills for the Project on the Sarus Crane Development and Conservation at Tram Chim National Park in 2024.
The People's Committee of Dong Thap province has approved a project for the conservation and development of the sarus crane at Tram Chim National Park from 2022 to 2032, with a total estimated cost of over 184 billion VND.
