Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Thien, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee/Head of the Executive Committee of the Project for Conservation and Development of Sarus Cranes at Tram Chim National Park from 2022 to 2032, met with members on May 10th to implement the contents of a Memorandum of Understanding with the International Crane Foundation and the Vietnam Zoo Association on the restoration of the Sarus Crane in Tram Chim National Park.

During the meeting, the members of the Executive Board discussed the implementation of transporting sarus cranes from Thailand to Tram Chim National Park. Members are particularly interested in procedures, the quantity of cranes, the solution for transporting and caring for the cranes, and so on.
Furthermore, the members advocated forming a working group between the Executive Board and Thai representatives to exchange and promote information about importing sarus cranes to Tram Chim National Park.
Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee – Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Thien agreed to establish a working group between the Executive Board and the representative of Thailand to create a connection and quickly promote the contents related to bringing the sarus crane to the National Park. The Project on Conservation and Development of Sarus Cranes in Tram Chim National Park from 2022 to 2032 aims to restore and develop the Red-headed Crane population in Tram Chim National Park over a 10-year period (from 2023 to 2033) by raising and releasing them into the wild. The project's goal is to release 150 cranes, with a minimum of 100 surviving. The cranes that have been released will be able to reproduce and survive in the wild. The project has four main contents: raising and releasing cranes in Tram Chim National Park; improving the habitat of cranes; building organic agricultural production areas around the park; promoting and educating the environment; developing sustainable livelihoods based on sarus cranes and organic agriculture; and mobilizing local community participation. |
